Tripadvisor for your visit to the Sacramento valley during the fall waterfowl migration
June 04, 2025
Traveling to the Sacramento valley for the fall migration of waterfowl? Hunting, photography, general bird watching and sightseeing opportunities are plentiful.
While you're here, or better yet before you come, have you thought about where you'll stay, eat and play? I'll give you some of my top picks for both economy and more high-end when it comes to hotels, along with a few restaurants and fun places you might want to explore. I'll just keep it to a short stretch of the Interstate 5 between the towns of Williams and Willows, California but my booking source applies to destinations throughout the U.S. and the world. I use Tripadvisor, to offer you the largest and best travel platform in the world. "Click" Tripadvisor here and enter your destination. You'll see links for "Hotels", "Things to Do", "Restaurants" and more. Choose a hotel to check availability. For the best pricing available, use the provided links for booking.com, hotels.com, Expedia, Priceline etc. depending on the hotel selected. I'll be upfront in that I can make a small shameless commission on hotel bookings, but even a bunch of clicks can generate a little, so please click away. If you decide to book, all the better. I'm not compensated for providing information on restaurants and things to see but I'm happy to share my experiences with you in those areas too.
As promised, here's a few of my top picks while you're in the area. Located in Williams, I'd recommend Granzella's Inn as they have a great restaurant too! Next up in Williams is Spark By Hilton and another place to eat if you like Mexican food is the La Fortuna. For the more affordable choices there is always the Motel 6 in both Williams and just up the road the Motel 6, Willows. While staying in Willows I would say the Holiday Inn Express or the Best Western Inn are at the top for me. Check out Nancy's Airport Cafe for a bite to eat and watch the small aircraft come and go. The Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge offers some great hunting opportunities and viewing of migratory waterfowl and other wildlife during the fall and winter months. The Willows Museum is currently open Thursday, Saturday and Sunday from 1-4 pm but I would call (530) 934-5644 in advance just to be sure. For the extra adventurous types there is glider rides and lessons in Williams with Williams Soaring Center.
